From Storytelling to Writing!
Human nature compels people to turn events into stories. If you watch any gathering (for example hunters, fishermen, sports fans, or a client and their therapist) you know this is true. It is easy to see that once introductions and small talk are out of the way and people become comfortable with one another, stories begin to flow.
Some stories are humorous, some are colorful, some are exciting, and some are scary. Nevertheless, we gather to tell and retell our favorites. With each telling, these stories often become embellished to an even greater extent. This opportunity prompted James Joyce to define and defend the concept of the Irish Truth. This, he claimed, was not an out-and-out lie if it worked to enhance the story being told.
Storytelling is an old art form. It grew from the need for people to impart information to one another and soon it became a form of entertainment. Knowing this, it is easy to believe storytelling must have developed before reading or writing. In fact, these last two tools may have evolved due to storytelling and the need for people to create a record beyond oral traditions.
I write both non-fiction (using author name Mitch Sexton) and fiction genres (using author name Evans Bissonette). This is so my readers can select the type of materials, Fiction or Non-Fiction, they want to read.
As a storyteller, my goal is to entertain you, the reader. My question always is, “Did I make the grade?” Please check out my books and let me know your thoughts.
